Day 3 - THE JUNGLE EXPERIENCE COMINCIA - ELEFANTI !
Il giorno dopo esserci ambientati nella bellissima Chiang Mai, eccoci pronti per un'esperienza nella vera Thailandia ! Partiamo con un tour organizzato di 3 giorni e 2 notti. In giro per la città potete trovare molti uffici che offrono le più svariate escursioni.
La prima tappa è la Mae Sa Orchid and Butterfly Farm. Una magnifica serra che presenta una vastissima varietà di orchidee e farfalle tropicali. Sembra di essere immersi in un sogno.
Ci dirigiamo in seguito presso la PooPooPaper Farm. Si tratta di un'area riservata al riciclo di escrementi di elefanti che vengono dunque trasformati in carta. Può sembrare alquanto disgustoso, ma in realtà il risultato è sorprendente e ... totalmente inodore !! Ed il lavoro fatto in questo luogo è più che ammirevole.
Primo passo: disinfettano la pupù di elefante che risulta così pulita ed inodore
Secondo passo: ne formano delle palline (volendo colorate) che vengono poi stese in acqua su delle basi rettangolari
Terzo passo: queste basi vengono poi esposte al sole per circa 5 ore
Quarto passo: la carta è pronta !! Ed è al 100% pupù di elefante !
Dopo questa interessante sosta, ci muoviamo verso il campo degli elefanti attraverso una passeggiata di circa due ore nella giungla thailandese. Caldo ed insetti a parte, il paesaggio che ci si presenta davanti è davvero meraviglioso.

Una breve sosta presso una delle tanti abitazioni improvvisate markets per turisti in cammino, è d'obbligo, così come assaggiare le famose banana chips (squisite !!)

Ed eccoci finalmente al campo degli elefanti ! Qui abbiamo avuto la possibilità di passeggiare insieme a queste meravigliose creature, nutrirle e ... far loro un bel bagnetto ! Anche se in realtà forse sarebbe più appropriato dire che il bagno lo abbiamo fatto insieme ... In ogni caso questi giganti della natura amano essere spazzolati nell'acqua !
Calata la notte - dopo una lunga doccia -, ci riposiamo davanti ad un fuoco, mangiando riso con curry ed arrostendo pollo.
E buona notte sotto le stelle !
Day 4 - VISITA AL VILLAGGIO LAHU SULLE MONTAGNE
Dopo una notte passata ad ascoltare i rumori della natura, ci concediamo un tuffo in una piccola cascata (la foresta thailandese ne è piena), dove il getto si trasforma presto in uno scivolo acquatico per i più avventurosi (a presto i video).
Una volta rinfrescati, siamo pronti per una camminata più ardua ... 2 ore di salita sotto il sole cocente delle due del pomeriggio ... mai fatta tanta fatica !
Per lo meno lo spettacolo è ancora una volta sorprendente ...

... E l'arrivo alla tribù Lahu lo è ancora di più!
Qui abbiamo avuto l'onore di venire ospitati dalla popolazione locale e anche di giocare con i bambini (a dir poco scatenati), alquanto incuriositi e divertiti dalla presenza di turisti.
Day 5 - CASCATE E BAMBOO RAFTING
La sveglia suona presto per dirigerci verso un'altra cascata, più grande della precedente.
Dopo certe camminate, dell'acqua fresca è quello che ci vuole, ma attenti alle vespe ...
Prossimo ed ultimo step: Rafting su gommone e Bamboo Rafting sul fiume Mae Tang !! (a presto i video!).
E dopo questi 3 giorni (davvero tra i più emozionanti della mia vita), adesso penso proprio ci concederemo una pausa di 1 - 2 giorni presso la Julie Guesthouse, prima di dirigerci verso Chiang Rai. L'ostello è centrale, accogliente e disposto ad aiutare per organizzare qualsiasi escursione e provvedere a visti per Laos e/o Vietnam.

Day 3 - THE JUNGLE EXPERIENCE STARTS - ELEPHANTS
The day after we settled in Chiang Mai, here we are, ready for a great experience in the real Thailand!
We decided to go for a 3 days and 2 nights organised tour. You can find a lot of this kind of offices around the city. They offer a lot of different excursions.
At first, we visited the Mae Sa Orchid and Butterfly Farm. Here you can find several types of orchids and tropical butterflies. It really looks like a kind of dream.
We then headed to the PooPooPaper Farm. This is a special area reserved to recycle the elephants' poo into paper. It may sound disgusting, but actually it's not at all. The result is amazing and ... totally odorless !! And we really have to admit that that kind of job is really admirable.
How they proceed:
- They disinfect the elephant's poo
- They can put some color in it
- They make some kind of balls with the clean poo
- They spread it in the water on some rectangular boards in order to cover it completely with the poo
- They put the boards under the sun for 5 hours
- They remove the "poo" from the boards
- Here is the paper 100% made with real poo !

After this interesting visit, we started a 2 hours walk through the thai jungle heading to the elephant's camp. No matters how many insects there were and how how it was ... the panorama was simply gorgeous !
You will definitely need to stop to drink or to take a breath, but don't worry: you will find lots of sort of markets - they're actually houses - ready to sell you any kind of drinks or snaks. And the price is so cheap !
You should try the banana chips (lovely !!)
We finally arrived to the elephant's camp, where we had the amazing opportunity to ride this wonderful animals, to feed them and to wash them too ! But actually I'd better to say that we definitely swam with them ! Anyway, elephants love to be brushed inside the water !
With the nightfall - after a long shower -, we chilled out in front of a fire, eating rice with curry and roasting chicken.
Good night under the stars !
Day 4 - VISIT TO THE LAHU VILLAGE ON TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN
After spending a night listening the nature noises, we went to swim into a small waterfall (you will find a lot of them inside the Thai forest). But the waterfall immediately became a waterslide for the most brave ones (videos coming soon).
After this refreshing break, we started a very hard walk ... 2 hours climbing under the 2 pm burning sun ... I believed I was dying !
At least, the panorama was wonderful ... and the Lahu tribe was even better !
Here we had the chance to be hosted by the local population and to play with the children. They were so curious and amused to know the tourists !
Day 5 - WATERFALL AND BAMBOO RAFTING
We woke up quite early in the morning to head to another waterfall, bigger than the previous one.
After such a tiring walk, some cool water it's what you need ... but be careful about the wasps !
Next and last step: Rafting and Bamboo Rafting on Mae Tang River !! (videos coming soon !).
After this crazy but amazing 3 days (the most exciting ones in my life so far), now I really think we will need to chill out for 1 or 2 days at the Julie Guesthouse, before heading to Chiang Rai. This hostel is in the city centre, very cozy and helpful to organise any kind of excursion and to provide visas to Laos or Vietnam.
