3 days around Ha Long Bay

Prima di recarmi ad Ha Long Bay non credevo questo luogo mi avrebbe tanto affascinata ... mi immaginavo una bella spiaggia con attorno qualche faraglione, invece si tratta di bel 3000 isolette di roccia calcarea che creano uno spettacolo mozzafiato. Non a caso la baia è stata dichiarata patrimonio mondiale dell'umanità dall'UNESCO.

Noi abbiamo deciso di visitarla attraverso un tour in barca di 3 giorni (in realtà è più o meno l'unico modo per girarla un po').

GIORNO 1 - KAYAKING, VISITA ALLE GROTTE E AI VILLAGGI DI PESCATORI

Saliti sulla barca dal porto di Ha Long City, ci dirigiamo verso Cat Ba Island, dove avremmo passato la notte. Si tratta dell'isola più grande dell'arcipelago, nonché l'unica ad essere abitata.

Sulla strada via mare non mancano le soste bagno e kayaking e le visite ai villaggi galleggianti di pescatori. Il tutto con uno sfondo spettacolare.

Il tour prevede, inoltre, una sosta alle grotte calcaree di Dong Thien Cung.

Per quanto, a mio avviso, le luci colorate poste per illuminarle rendano l'ambiente un po' a mo' di night club ... queste grotte sono davvero stupende.

Arrivati verso sera all'isola di Cat Ba, facciamo il check-in all'hotel previsto dal tour, il Sunflower Hotel, di qualità standard. Dopo cena, ci dirigiamo al Rose Bar, il principale locale dell'isola, dove tra partite a biliardo ed happy hour a prezzi veramente cheap è impossibile non divertirsi insieme ai locali e vari turisti di passaggio.

GIORNO 2 - PARCO NAZIONALE E MONKEY ISLAND

Il giorno dopo la sveglia suona presto (forse un po' troppo presto visto la notte brava precedente) e ci dirigiamo alla scoperta dell'isola.

La prima sosta è nel Parco Nazionale dell'Isola, dove decidiamo d'imbatterci in un non proprio semplicissimo  - e sicuramente sudatissimo - trekking per raggiungere la cima panoramica per godere della vista dell'isola.

Al pomeriggio, invece, visitiamo la vicina Monkey Island, nel versante meridionale di Cat Ba. Un vero e proprio paradiso, con una spiaggia di sabbia bianchissima e, nome non dato a caso, scimmie ! Sono animali davvero bellissimi e i turisti possono divertirsi a vederle aprire lattine di coca-cola e sacchetti di patatine - anche se qualche "simpaticone" ama vederle ubriacarsi con della birra purtroppo.

Attenti a non dare troppa confidenza alle scimmie perché, in quanto animali selvatici, possono mordere o risultare poco amichevoli (soprattutto se ti prendono qualche oggetto importante, tipo la macchina fotografica).

La sera, invece, ci spostiamo sulla barca per dormire. Prima della cena, sempre servita a bordo, la guida ci ha mostrato come cucinare i famosi involtini vietnamiti.

GIORNO 3 - IL RITORNO

La mattina dopo la barca ci riporta ad Ha Long City, dove siamo pronti per prendere l'ennesimo bus di 24h per dirigerci nella città imperiale di Hué.

Goodbye Ha Long Bay ...

Il tour è stato veramente bello, ma bisogna armarsi di santa pazienza. Purtroppo i vari tour sono molto disorganizzati. Sebbene, infatti, abbiamo avuto occasione di visitare tutto quello per cui avevamo pagato (100$ a testa per tre giorni tutto incluso a parte il bere) in realtà il tour originale era organizzato diversamente (dovevamo fare la prima notte in barca e la seconda sull'isola). Inoltre abbiamo cambiato non so quante barche ... insomma ... ti fanno impazzire, ma alla fine ne vale la pena.

Mi raccomando, non portate alcun tipo di bevanda, se non acqua, a bordo della barca. Ti "multano" di 10$ ... beh si sa che il Sud - Est Asiatico se le inventa un po' tutte per far su qualche soldo dai turisti.

Potete anche decidere di fare tour di solo un giorno o due invece che tre.

Ma Ha Long Bay resta comunque una meraviglia della natura che va visitata almeno una volta nella vita.

Before visiting Ha Long Bay I didn't know it could really be so amazing ... I just imagined a beautiful beach with some small rocky islands around ... but actually there are 3000 small limestone islands there. And it's absolutely breathtaking. That's why Ha Long Bay has been declared UNESCO World Heritage in 1994.

We decided to go there with a 3 days boat tour, which is actually the only way to visit the bay properly.

DAY 1 - KAYAKING, CAVES AND FLOATING FISHERMEN'S VILLAGES VISIT

We took the boeat from the Ha Long City's harbour, heading to Cat Ba Island, where we spent the first night. It's the biggest island of the bay, and the only inhabited one.

On the way through the sea the boat stopped some times to allow us to swim, kayaking and to visit the floating fishermen's villages. And the panorama is always stunning.

We also stopped to visit Dong Thien Cung limestone caves. Maybe the colorful lights put to light the rocks up make the place look like a sort of night club ... but the caves are still amazing.

We arrived at Cat Ba Island in the evening and we checked in in the hotel booked from the tour organisers, the Sunflower Hotel. The quality was quite standard, but clean. After dinner, we headed to the Rose Bar, the main one in the island, where you can play pool and drink cheap beers, meeting all the other tourists.

DAY 2 - NATIONAL PARK AND MONKEY ISLAND

The day after we woke up early (maybe too early , due to the hangover from the previous night) and we headed to the National Park of the island, to trek around the park to reach the panoramic peak where you can enjoy an amazing view of the island.

In the afternoon we visited Monkey Island, which is absolutely gorgeous. The beach is with white sand and light blue sea and ... you can spot some monkeys too ! Tourists can enjoy giving the monkeys some chips packs or coca-cola cans to see them opening them. Unfortunately some give them beer, in order to have fun watching them getting drunk. So bad.

Monkeys are very nice animals but be careful ... since they're wild animals they could be dangerous and bite you or steal you something ... like your camera !

In the evening we moved to the sleeping boat where we had dinner and spent the night as well. Before dinner, the guide showed us how to prepare vietnamese rools. So good !

DAY 3 - COMING BACK TO HA LONG CITY

The morning after the boat brought us back to Ha Long City, where we took another 24h bus to head to the imperial city: Hué.

The tour was awesome, but you need to be very patient since they're reallr disorganised. We actually visited everything we paid for (100$ per head all inclusive except the beverages), but out tour was supposed to be slightly different (we were supposed to sleep the first night on the boat and the second one in the hotel). And we also had to change a lot of boats ... anyway, it was worth it.

Be careful 'cause the boats charge you 10$ for every beverages taken from outside (except water). Of course they just want you to buy them on board.

You can also decide to book for one or two days tour as well. Up to you !

Ha Long Bay is such amazing which deserves to be visited at least once in life.
